Liverpool’s talisman Mohamed Salah is set to captain Egypt at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, despite initial concerns from his club over fixture congestion and injury risk. The tournament, scheduled for January in Morocco, overlaps with key Premier League fixtures, leading to debates about player availability.
Salah, however, has made his intentions clear. “Wearing the Egypt shirt is an honor I will never turn down,” he said. “My country needs me, and I will be there.”
Liverpool boss Arne Slot acknowledged the situation with cautious support: “It’s always difficult to lose a player like Mo mid-season, but we respect international duty. We’ll adapt.”
Egypt has been drawn in a tough group alongside Cameroon, Guinea, and Namibia. Salah’s experience and leadership could be pivotal in their quest for an eighth AFCON crown.
